The Smircs are a collection of 6,666 Smircs dropping on July 24th, they are broken down into eleven rarity groups that include but are not limited to, Gatekeepers, Pilots, Legendary’s, and Go-Getter’s. Let’s look at some details of the Smircs collection. Never underestimate what young people consider cool, it’s often an insight into the future. Today, all three are lapped up and highly desirable. Street culture mentality has driven popular culture for some time, just look at Hip Hop, streetwear, and street art, all were shunned by the middle and upper classes of society a couple of decades ago. Street culture and NFT culture mentality are similar, therefore, projects that blend the two are positioned nicely to take advantage of that. Why does this blend often work? NFTs fit into the rebelliousness of street culture, just look at street art, it’s the ultimate metaphorical middle finger to regular society, that’s exactly how I feel about NFT culture at the moment. Three of them are streetwear-focused brands blending the real world with NFTs, while Azuki literally calls themselves ‘the Skaters of the Internet”. ![]() Some of these projects are established while some are very new, and all have street culture at their roots. We’ve seen a number of projects leveraging street and urban culture, those who do it well can become successful, such as projects I’ve written about before, Adam Bomb Squad, HAPE Prime, Azuki, and Primates. “Collaborations upcoming with world-class designers, street artists & illustrators that we are extremely excited to work with.” “Smircs is a creatively driven brand with roots in artisanship and urban culture.” When I spoke with a member of the Smircs they told me, For anybody who reads this Newsletter or follows me on Twitter, you’ll know that the two elements mentioned below are right up my street.
